An early October road trip getaway took my partner and I to northern Wisconsin. Enjoying peak fall colors everywhere we went, we visited several picturesque Up North towns during our travels.
Arbor Vitae
Reprising a lunch stop back in July, we dined again at the ever-popular Bad Bones BBQ restaurant in Arbor Vitae.
Boulder Junction
Boulder Junction is a great place to enjoy some of the best the Northwoods has to offer. We visited during the 27th Annual Harvest Fest on a perfect October day when the Northwoods Fall Art Tour was also underway.
Lac du Flambeau
Our travels took us onto Ojibwe Nation land in the Lac du Flambeau vicinity to visit Sand Lake Trading Company, one of the sites on the Northwoods Fall Art Tour.
Minocqua
Minocqua was ground zero for many of the activities on our fall road trip. Driftwood Lodge in Minocqua was home base during our trip, which included restaurants and several scenic stops in the area.
Sayner
Passing through Sayner, Wisconsin we stopped at the Vilas County Historical Museum. It was closed, so we couldn’t go inside, but the Wisconsin Historical Marker described the birth of the snowmobile, which took place here. Paul Bunyan and his Blue Ox Babe keeps watch in front of the museum.
St. Germain
Other priorities limited our time in St. Germain, but we did manage to snap a few pictures while we were there.
