The new Port of Ludington Maritime Museum, opened in 2017, is located in the main building of what was once the old U.S. Coast Guard Station in Ludington, MI. As the need for wooden surf boats and lifesavers diminished with the arrival of fast zodiacs and helicopters, the mission of the USCG in Ludington changed. There is still an active USCG station in Ludington, but it is much smaller. In the photo below, the current station is on the left. The old station, behind the U.S. flag, now houses the museum.

The photo gallery below presents photos of the museum and many of its exhibits.
Great photos and documentation, Phil. That’s definitely a place we want to see someday. Wasn’t completed when we visited Ludington on the Badger in 2016. Thanks for the inspiration.
