The Wisconsin Maritime Museum is a premier attraction in the shipbuilding and port city of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Located on the Lake Michigan coast, Manitowoc is also the western terminus for the S.S. Badger, the last coal-fired Lake Michigan car ferry. The Wisconsin Maritime Museum is rated as the #1 attraction to see in Manitowoc.
Manitowoc was the home to the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company where over 7,000 men and women worked 365 days a year to build 28 submarines for the U.S. Navy in World War II. One of those submarines, the USS Cobia (SS 245) is permanently moored next to the museum and is available for tours and even overnight stays if desired.
